Track a Cainiao parcel on this page
Use the parcel tracking number shown in one of these places:
- the logistics section of the AliExpress order;
- the seller’s shipment confirmation;
- another marketplace’s carrier details;
- the official Cainiao Global Tracking page;
- a Cainiao warehouse or consolidation record;
- a replacement tracking-number notice;
- a destination local-carrier record explicitly linked to the original shipment.
Enter one supported tracking number at a time.
Do not enter:
- an AliExpress commercial order number;
- a marketplace account ID;
- a recipient name;
- a phone number;
- an email address;
- a street address or postcode;
- a QR code;
- a pickup or locker code;
- a customs declaration;
- a payment reference;
- a dispute or refund reference;
- a claim number;
- a photograph or signature.
A tracking number can expose origin, warehouse, customs, carrier, pickup and delivery information. Treat the full number as private shipment data. Do not publish it in reviews, screenshots, forums, URLs, page titles, metadata, analytics labels or unnecessary AI prompts.
Cainiao is a logistics network and a tracking aggregation layer
Cainiao is a global ecommerce logistics and supply-chain business within Alibaba Group.
Current official Cainiao material describes capabilities involving:
- warehouses;
- sorting centres;
- first-mile pickup;
- parcel consolidation;
- line-haul transport;
- air, road, rail and sea capacity;
- customs services;
- destination injection;
- local delivery;
- lockers and pickup points;
- reverse logistics;
- logistics technology.
At the same time, Cainiao’s global tracking guidance says that tracking information is updated from carriers.
This means the public timeline can combine different sources.
event displayed by Cainiao
→ Cainiao can associate the event with the shipment
≠ Cainiao necessarily performed the physical scan
Possible event sources
An event can be:
- generated by Cainiao;
- supplied by a warehouse;
- supplied by a line-haul provider;
- supplied by a Post;
- supplied by a commercial destination carrier;
- translated by Cainiao;
- normalised into a broader category;
- inserted after delayed data exchange.
Why this matters
The actor responsible for the next step depends on the event source.
For example:
- seller-data problems belong with the seller;
- warehouse problems can belong with Cainiao or the booking platform;
- customs decisions belong with customs;
- last-mile proof belongs with the destination carrier;
- refunds belong with the marketplace or merchant.
Cainiao and Alibaba Group
Cainiao remains an Alibaba Group business in current 2026 corporate materials.
Public Cainiao services can involve different Cainiao companies and affiliates. Current materials use names including:
- Cainiao Group;
- Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Limited;
- Hangzhou Cainiao Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd.
This does not mean that three unrelated networks exist. It means the legal entity responsible for a particular portal, contract or regional service can differ.
Public-safe company description:
Cainiao is an Alibaba Group logistics business operating through Cainiao group companies, affiliates, vendors and logistics partners.
Alibaba disclosed a majority ownership position and a minority-share purchase offer in 2024. The reviewed current evidence does not support publishing one precise 2026 ownership percentage or stating that every Cainiao service is operated by one wholly owned legal entity.
Cainiao is not AliExpress
AliExpress is a marketplace.
Cainiao is a logistics and supply-chain business.
The two can work together, especially for AliExpress Choice and other cross-border programmes, but their responsibilities remain different.
| AliExpress | Cainiao |
|---|---|
| Creates and stores the commercial order | Receives or coordinates logistics data |
| Holds buyer and seller account records | Displays supported parcel events |
| Handles seller messages and buyer protection | Supports warehouse, transport or tracking workflows |
| Controls marketplace disputes | Can provide logistics evidence |
| Approves marketplace refunds | Does not automatically approve the commercial remedy |
AliExpress order number is not a tracking number
The AliExpress order number identifies the purchase.
The parcel tracking number identifies a logistics record.
Use the tracking number shown in the order’s logistics details.
Do not paste the commercial order number into a carrier tracking form.
What the Cainiao tracker can support
The official Cainiao tracker says it supports:
- Cainiao parcel tracking numbers;
- AliExpress parcel tracking numbers.
That does not provide access to:
- the buyer account;
- order contents;
- seller messages;
- payment details;
- dispute status;
- refund status.
Who handles an AliExpress dispute?
Use AliExpress for:
- item not received;
- refund;
- replacement;
- buyer protection;
- seller dispute;
- account issue.
Use Cainiao or the operating carrier for:
- logistics events;
- local-carrier identity;
- route evidence;
- tracking-number changes.
Cainiao is not 4PX
Cainiao and 4PX have had corporate and investment relationships.
They remain different public logistics identities.
corporate or investment relationship
≠ same carrier
≠ same provider code
≠ same tracking-number family
≠ every shipment uses both
4PX has its own:
- brand;
- official website;
- tracking surface;
- products;
- provider identity.
Use 4PX Tracking when the shipment record explicitly identifies 4PX.
Do not map a number to Cainiao merely because 4PX may participate in the route.
Do not map a Cainiao-associated number to 4PX without a verified provider or carrier record.
Cainiao is not China Post, China EMS or ePacket
Cainiao can hand parcels to postal operators.
It is not:
- China Post;
- China EMS;
- the global EMS network;
- ePacket;
- one universal postal carrier.
A postal-style tracking number can appear in Cainiao because:
- a Post was selected for export or delivery;
- a consolidated parcel was relabelled;
- a destination postal number was linked;
- Cainiao is displaying partner data.
The postal identifier remains the postal operator’s number.
Use China Post Tracking for:
- China Post products;
- China EMS;
- e-EMS;
- ePacket;
- China-specific postal events and claims.
Other carriers in a Cainiao timeline are not aliases
A Cainiao-associated route can involve carriers such as:
- 4PX;
- China Post;
- China EMS;
- YunExpress;
- Yanwen;
- SunYou;
- CNE Express;
- Orange Connex;
- SF Express;
- national Posts;
- commercial destination carriers.
A partner appearing in the same timeline does not become Cainiao.
Likewise, Cainiao does not become the destination carrier merely because it displays the destination carrier’s data.
Cainiao tracking-number format
Cainiao does not publish one universal public tracking-number specification.
The reviewed official sources do not establish one:
- prefix;
- length;
- suffix;
- check digit;
- product-code table;
- regular expression.
Cainiao-associated routes can use:
- internal logistics identifiers;
- warehouse or consolidation identifiers;
- commercial-carrier numbers;
- postal S10 numbers;
- destination local-carrier numbers;
- replacement numbers.
Public-safe rule:
Use the complete parcel number supplied by the seller, marketplace or official tracking record. A recognised current provider response is stronger than a guessed prefix or length.
A prefix does not prove the carrier
A familiar prefix does not independently prove:
- Cainiao;
- the service level;
- origin country;
- destination;
- current physical handler;
- possession.
The official site supports bulk lookup
Cainiao’s official global tracking page supports many numbers at once.
The 11Tracking form should still be used for one supported number at a time. This keeps the parcel, carrier identity and privacy boundary clear.
Order number, original number, replacement number and local number
A cross-border ecommerce route can contain several identifiers.
| Identifier | What it identifies | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace order number | Commercial purchase | Carrier route or possession |
| Original tracking number | Initial logistics record | Final outbound or local identity |
| Warehouse number | Inbound or warehouse workflow | International dispatch |
| Consolidation number | Combined outbound shipment | Every original item completed |
| Replacement number | Relabelled or changed route record | Fraud or local-carrier acceptance |
| Local tracking number | Destination carrier’s record | Physical acceptance without a carrier event |
| Pickup code | Release credential | Tracking identity |
| Dispute reference | Marketplace case | Parcel number |
| Claim reference | Logistics investigation | Refund approval |
Keep the original and any later number.
Do not attempt to calculate one from another.
Use an alternate number only when the platform, Cainiao or a carrier explicitly links it.
Why did the tracking number change?
A changed number can be legitimate.
Possible reasons include:
- warehouse consolidation;
- relabelling;
- product or route change;
- export-carrier handoff;
- destination injection;
- local-carrier assignment;
- return routing.
new number created
→ a new route identity or label exists
≠ the old number was fake
≠ the new carrier physically has the parcel
Preserve the number chain
Keep:
- the commercial order number;
- the original tracking number;
- the consolidation or replacement number;
- the local carrier number.
Only the logistics numbers belong in public carrier trackers.
Old number can continue updating
Some systems continue to publish events against the original number after a replacement appears.
That does not automatically mean the numbers refer to different parcels.
Use the explicit linkage and item details.
Electronic tracking data is not physical possession
Use an evidence ladder.
| Evidence | Strongest supported conclusion | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace order created | A purchase exists | Logistics booking or handoff |
| Tracking number created | Electronic logistics record exists | Physical possession |
| Waiting for carrier pickup | Pickup instruction exists | Pickup completion |
| Received by logistics company | An operational logistics actor recorded acceptance | Exact legal entity or every item |
| Warehouse signed | Inbound warehouse handoff exists | Intake, consolidation and outbound completion |
| Consolidation completed | Combined outbound record exists | Carrier pickup |
| Sorting-centre event | Network processing exists | Export or customs |
| Transport-hub event | Origin transport node processed it | Aircraft or country departure |
| Customs event | Customs stage exists or progressed | Local-carrier possession |
| Local carrier assigned | Mapping or label exists | Item acceptance |
| Local carrier accepted | Strong destination possession evidence | Delivery route |
| Out for Delivery | Local route activity exists | Successful completion |
| Delivered | Completion event exists | Named recipient or proof details |
`Waiting for Carrier to Pick Up`
Cainiao’s official status explanation says this generally means the carrier received the shipment message and pickup is expected later.
Waiting for Carrier to Pick Up
→ electronic instruction or booking exists
≠ physical pickup
The parcel may still be:
- with the seller;
- at a merchant warehouse;
- waiting for a collection run;
- awaiting a label or pickup exception resolution.
Who should act?
Contact the seller or booking party when this remains the only stage.
Cainiao or a partner cannot transport a parcel that has not been physically handed over.
For the broader status distinction, see Label Created.
`Received by Logistics Company`
This is stronger evidence that an operational logistics actor accepted the parcel.
The actor can be:
- Cainiao;
- a Cainiao warehouse;
- a contracted first-mile carrier;
- a consolidator;
- another logistics partner.
The event does not automatically prove:
- Cainiao employee handling;
- every item in a consolidated order was received;
- outbound international dispatch;
- current location.
Use later facility and transport events for the next stage.
Warehouse receipt and warehouse signing
A seller can send an item to:
- a Cainiao warehouse;
- an AliExpress Choice consolidation facility;
- a bonded warehouse;
- an export hub;
- another authorised logistics facility.
A warehouse receipt or signature means the inbound parcel reached the receiving object.
It does not universally prove:
- the item was opened;
- the order was matched correctly;
- weight and size were confirmed;
- the contents passed inspection;
- the parcel is eligible for consolidation;
- outbound dispatch occurred.
Warehouse intake can contain several stages
Possible later steps include:
- scanning;
- order matching;
- measurement;
- inspection;
- storage;
- exception handling;
- consolidation;
- outbound labelling.
A signed event is not the end of the warehouse workflow.
Cainiao consolidation
Cainiao and AliExpress Choice workflows can combine several merchant parcels into one outbound shipment.
Consolidation can:
- combine items from different sellers;
- reduce the number of final packages;
- create a new tracking number;
- change the carrier or service;
- change package weight and dimensions;
- route the parcel through an export warehouse.
Evidence boundaries
item selected for consolidation
≠ warehouse physically received it
warehouse received item
≠ consolidation completed
consolidation completed
→ combined outbound record exists
≠ outbound carrier pickup
replacement number created
→ new outbound identity exists
≠ every inbound item was included
One item can be excluded or delayed
A consolidation can split when:
- one seller dispatches late;
- one parcel fails warehouse intake;
- one item is restricted;
- size or route rules differ;
- damage or mismatch is found.
Compare the marketplace item list with the consolidated tracking record.
Sorting-centre events
A status such as Processing at sorting center means a logistics sorting node recorded activity.
The node can belong to:
- Cainiao;
- a consolidator;
- a line-haul provider;
- a partner carrier;
- a destination network.
It does not prove:
- export;
- customs clearance;
- international departure.
Departed sorting centre
This means the parcel moved away from that sorting node.
It does not identify:
- the next facility;
- transport mode;
- flight;
- destination country.
For the generic movement model, see In Transit.
`Arrived at Departure Transport Hub`
This event means the parcel or shipment unit reached an origin-side transport node.
Cainiao operates and coordinates a multimodal network.
The transport hub can support:
- air;
- road;
- rail;
- sea;
- combined transport.
arrived at departure transport hub
→ origin transport node processed the shipment
≠ confirmed airport
≠ aircraft loading
≠ flight departure
≠ export customs completion
≠ origin-country departure
Do not describe the parcel as being “at the airport” without route-specific carrier evidence.
Export customs
Origin-side customs can appear before international line-haul.
Possible broad events include:
- export customs started;
- export customs completed;
- export customs held;
- export customs failed.
Export customs started
This means the shipment entered an origin customs stage.
It does not prove:
- inspection;
- missing paperwork;
- restriction;
- return;
- release time.
Export customs completed
This means the customs stage progressed or was recorded complete.
It does not prove:
- loading;
- aircraft departure;
- country departure;
- destination arrival.
Cainiao and customs are different actors
Cainiao can provide:
- logistics data;
- customs-service coordination;
- declarations;
- broker integration.
The government customs authority controls the legal decision.
11Tracking cannot submit, edit or validate customs data.
Leaving or departed from the origin country
Statuses such as:
- leaving departure country;
- ready for international departure;
- waiting for flight arrangements;
- departed from origin country;
represent different points in international dispatch.
Leaving or preparing
This can mean:
- dispatch preparation;
- transport booking;
- consolidation into a shipment unit;
- waiting for international transport.
Departed origin country
This is stronger evidence that international line-haul progressed.
It still does not prove:
- a specific flight;
- direct flight;
- live aircraft location;
- destination-country arrival;
- import customs clearance.
A parcel can travel inside a bag, container, pallet or other consolidated shipment unit.
`Arrived at Line-Haul Office`
This is one of the most ambiguous Cainiao phrases.
A line-haul office can be:
- an intermediate transport node;
- a transfer hub;
- a destination-region line-haul facility;
- a provider-normalised event category.
Strongest supported conclusion:
A line-haul or transfer node recorded arrival.
It does not prove:
- the parcel reached the recipient’s city;
- import customs cleared it;
- a local carrier accepted it;
- it is ready for delivery.
The map can be misleading
A progress map or destination-country label can make the event look more local than the evidence supports.
Use:
- the raw carrier remark;
- the event location;
- the next customs or carrier event;
- the destination carrier’s tracker.
Transit events
Cainiao routes can pass through another country or logistics hub.
A transit event does not prove:
- wrong destination;
- final import into that market;
- route failure.
International ecommerce networks choose routes based on:
- transport capacity;
- customs infrastructure;
- consolidation;
- line-haul schedules;
- partner availability.
Import customs
Destination-side customs is separate from destination local delivery.
Import customs started
This means the shipment entered import customs processing.
It does not prove:
- duty is owed;
- a document is missing;
- inspection;
- seizure;
- delivery delay length.
Import customs completed
This means the customs stage progressed or was recorded complete.
import customs completed
→ customs processing progressed
≠ destination carrier accepted the individual parcel
≠ Out for Delivery
Customs held or failed
A held or failed state can require action by:
- seller;
- recipient;
- broker;
- carrier;
- customs authority.
The broad event does not identify which action is required.
Payment safety
A real customs event does not make an unsolicited payment link authentic.
Open the destination customs or carrier site independently.
For the broader customs workflow, use Package Stuck in Customs.
Destination injection
Destination injection is the transition from international transport or customs processing into a destination distribution network.
The destination carrier can receive:
- advance electronic data;
- a label;
- a shipment manifest;
- a consolidated container;
- the individual parcel.
These are not equivalent evidence stages.
Carrier assigned
A destination carrier name can appear before the parcel reaches that carrier.
local carrier assigned
→ mapping or intended handoff exists
≠ physical acceptance
Local tracking number created
A local number can be generated before individual possession.
The local tracker may show:
- label created;
- information received;
- awaiting item;
- number not active.
Strong local acceptance
A destination-carrier event such as:
- accepted;
- package received;
- arrived at carrier facility;
is stronger evidence of physical local possession.
For the general handoff model, see Handed to Local Carrier.
`Received by Local Delivery Company`
This Cainiao status is a strong destination-handoff clue.
It should still be compared with the named local carrier’s own record.
Cainiao and local carrier agree
When the local carrier also shows:
- accepted;
- package received;
- facility arrival;
local possession is strongly supported.
Cainiao says received, but local carrier says awaiting item
Use this hierarchy:
Cainiao: Received by Local Delivery Company
→ Cainiao network reports a handoff or receipt stage
Local carrier: Label Created / Awaiting Item
→ local carrier has data
≠ item-level possession confirmed
Local carrier: Accepted / Facility Arrival
→ stronger local possession evidence
Possible explanations include:
- advance data;
- manifest-level handoff;
- container receipt;
- delayed local scan;
- incorrect mapping;
- translated event differences.
Preserve both records. Do not accuse either carrier from the mismatch alone.
Why Cainiao and the local tracker can disagree
Aggregated versus raw data
Cainiao can show a network-level status.
The local carrier can show a more specific item-level status.
Timing
One system may receive the event earlier.
Mapping
Cainiao can expose a local carrier before its number is activated.
Translation
A raw carrier event can be translated or normalised.
Corrected history
Delayed events can appear later and change the apparent sequence.
| Cainiao record | Local carrier record | Safe interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Received by local company | Awaiting item | Assignment or network handoff exists; local item acceptance remains unconfirmed |
| Local number created | Number not found | Number may be inactive, delayed, incorrect or unsupported |
| Import customs complete | No local record | Destination injection can still remain |
| Arrived at local centre | Shipping partner facility | Partner stage may precede carrier possession |
| Delivered | No proof visible | Preserve records and investigate with the operating carrier and merchant |
| Cainiao stopped updating | Local carrier accepted | Operational tracking has shifted to the local carrier |
Destination sorting and local delivery centre
A destination sorting-centre event supports local or regional network processing.
It does not prove:
- final delivery office;
- route loading;
- delivery that day.
A local delivery-centre event is stronger evidence that the parcel is closer to the last mile.
It still does not provide:
- exact driver location;
- delivery time;
- guaranteed completion.
Out for Delivery
An Out for Delivery event means the destination carrier or delivery partner recorded route activity.
It does not prove:
- delivery that day;
- a specific time;
- live GPS;
- named driver;
- signature;
- safe-place outcome.
Use the local carrier’s current record for the most specific last-mile instructions.
For the general status boundary, see Out for Delivery.
Pickup point or locker
Cainiao describes overseas local capabilities that can include:
- pickup points;
- self-service lockers;
- local collection services.
A parcel record can show:
- pickup point assigned;
- delivery method changed to self-pickup;
- arrived at pickup point;
- available for collection;
- pickup code issued;
- collected.
These are different states.
pickup point assigned
≠ parcel arrived
available for collection
≠ recipient was notified
pickup code issued
≠ recipient collected
collected
≠ contents or condition accepted
The destination carrier or collection network controls:
- location;
- opening hours;
- code;
- ID;
- authorised collector;
- holding period.
There is no safe global Cainiao collection period.
Use Available for Pickup for the general evidence model.
The Cainiao `Pick Up` category is ambiguous
Cainiao’s current status explanation uses Pick Up for a group of possibilities that can include:
- Out for Delivery;
- arrival at a local facility;
- scheduling delivery;
- recipient pickup.
These are not the same operational state.
Do not interpret Pick Up from the category alone.
Check:
- raw carrier remark;
- facility name;
- pickup address;
- pickup deadline;
- route wording;
- destination-carrier record.
A generic translation should not flatten route delivery and recipient collection into one status.
Delivered
Cainiao’s status explanation treats Delivered as successful carrier completion.
The event can originate from:
- Cainiao;
- a partner carrier;
- a local Post;
- a commercial last-mile carrier;
- another logistics source.
Strongest supported conclusion:
The tracking source recorded completion.
It does not universally prove:
- the named recipient personally received the parcel;
- correct legal address;
- signature;
- photograph;
- contents;
- condition;
- continued possession.
Delivered to another person or object
Carrier remarks can state:
- delivered in person;
- delivered to a proxy;
- delivered to a pickup object;
- safe-place delivery;
- another outcome.
Preserve the exact wording where it can be shown safely.
Do not convert it into stronger identity proof.
Proof of delivery
Proof is controlled by the operating last-mile carrier and service.
The public Cainiao tracker does not establish one universal:
- signature;
- photograph;
- GPS;
- recipient name;
- downloadable POD.
11Tracking cannot retrieve private proof.
Delivered but not received
Start with the operating local carrier.
- Preserve the Cainiao timeline.
- Preserve the local-carrier timeline.
- Identify the exact Delivered wording.
- Check:
- household members;
- neighbour;
- reception;
- mailroom;
- safe location;
- pickup point or locker.
- Request any available proof privately.
- Contact the local carrier for the delivery investigation.
- Contact the seller or marketplace for refund or replacement.
- Preserve buyer-protection and payment deadlines.
Keep these questions separate:
- Did Cainiao display a completion event?
- Which carrier created it?
- What proof exists?
- Was it the correct property or pickup object?
- Can the carrier investigate?
- Can the marketplace provide a commercial remedy?
A Delivered event does not independently prove theft, fraud, carrier misconduct or recipient dishonesty.
Use Delivered but Not Received for the complete recovery workflow.
Undelivered or failed delivery
Cainiao’s official status explanation uses Undelivered for an attempted delivery that did not complete.
Possible reasons include:
- nobody available;
- incomplete address;
- invalid phone;
- access problem;
- route exception;
- pickup conversion;
- local security or customs issue.
The event does not independently prove:
- recipient absence;
- address error;
- refusal;
- carrier fault.
The local carrier controls the next step, which can include:
- another attempt;
- address correction;
- pickup;
- return.
For the general evidence model, see Delivery Attempted.
Return to seller
Current Cainiao FAQ gives examples of return reasons such as:
- unclaimed parcel;
- storage period expired;
- unclear address or phone;
- unsuccessful delivery;
- security-check failure.
The exact reason remains route-specific.
return requested
→ request exists
≠ parcel intercepted
return in transit
→ reverse movement exists
≠ seller or warehouse received
seller received
→ logistics return completed
≠ AliExpress refund approved
Logistics return and commercial refund are separate
Cainiao or the carrier can show:
- reverse movement;
- warehouse arrival;
- seller receipt.
AliExpress or another marketplace controls:
- dispute;
- refund;
- replacement;
- buyer protection.
Global 5-Day and Global 10-Day delivery
Cainiao promotes:
- Global 5-Day Delivery;
- Global 10-Day Delivery.
These are selected programme and route propositions.
Do not interpret the names as:
- every Cainiao parcel arrives within five or ten days;
- every AliExpress Choice order qualifies;
- the clock always begins at order payment;
- a delay automatically creates compensation.
The applicable clock can depend on:
- seller dispatch;
- warehouse receipt;
- consolidation;
- outbound dispatch;
- carrier acceptance.
Use the shipment-specific programme terms and current estimate.
Overseas local Cainiao delivery
Current official Cainiao material says the company provides local parcel-delivery capability in nine countries and regions.
The reviewed local-capabilities page identifies examples including:
- Spain;
- France;
- Poland.
It also describes capabilities such as:
- local pickup;
- sorting;
- line-haul;
- last mile;
- self-service lockers.
The reviewed public material does not publish one complete current list of all nine markets.
Do not invent the missing list.
A destination outside a verified Cainiao local market can still receive a Cainiao-associated parcel through another Post or carrier.
Delivery estimates are planning information
Cainiao can display:
- a marketplace estimate;
- a Cainiao estimate;
- a service-family target;
- a destination-carrier estimate.
The source and clock can differ.
estimated delivery
→ planning information
≠ guaranteed delivery
Do not use one universal Cainiao timeline.
International delivery can be affected by:
- seller dispatch;
- warehouse processing;
- consolidation;
- customs;
- transport capacity;
- transit;
- destination injection;
- local carrier operations.
Why Cainiao tracking may not update
Interpret the gap from the last confirmed stage.
No recognised number
Possible reasons:
- wrong number;
- commercial order number used;
- unsupported carrier;
- number not activated;
- seller has not created the logistics record.
Contact the seller and check the official marketplace record.
Use Tracking Number Not Found for the broader verification process.
Waiting for carrier pickup
Possible reasons:
- seller has not handed it over;
- pickup has not occurred;
- booking data is waiting for a physical event.
Contact the seller.
Warehouse stage
Possible reasons:
- intake;
- matching;
- consolidation wait;
- exception handling;
- outbound preparation.
Sorting or departure hub
Possible reasons:
- export customs;
- transport scheduling;
- dispatch preparation;
- delayed data.
International line-haul
Possible reasons:
- air, road, rail or sea movement;
- transit;
- consolidated-shipment processing;
- delayed electronic exchange.
Import customs
Possible reasons:
- routine review;
- document request;
- tax or duty;
- inspection;
- delayed carrier event.
Local-carrier stage
Possible reasons:
- assignment before acceptance;
- number activation delay;
- destination sorting;
- route schedule;
- failed delivery;
- pickup conversion.
Cainiao’s current FAQ contains broad 11- and 12-day wording for some unchanged records. That guidance is not a universal loss threshold and should not replace stage-based analysis.
Use Tracking Not Updating for the full decision tree.
Customs cleared but no local-carrier update
Customs completion and carrier acceptance are separate stages.
After customs, the parcel may still need:
- release transmission;
- handoff from customs facility;
- destination sorting;
- label activation;
- local-carrier pickup;
- item-level acceptance scan.
customs clearance complete
≠ local carrier possession
≠ Out for Delivery
Use the local tracking number only when Cainiao or another official record links it.
For the broader problem, see Customs Cleared but No Update.
Which party should act?
| Current situation | First responsible route |
|---|---|
| AliExpress commercial order, dispute or refund | AliExpress |
| Seller has not handed over the parcel | Seller |
| Cainiao number is not recognised | Seller, marketplace and official Cainiao tracker |
| Waiting for carrier pickup | Seller or booking party |
| Warehouse or consolidation stage stalled | Cainiao, seller or marketplace logistics support |
| International Cainiao event stopped | Cainiao or identified operating carrier |
| Local number is inactive | Seller or Cainiao for mapping; local carrier after activation |
| Local carrier accepted the parcel | Local carrier |
| Customs hold | Destination carrier or customs; seller for shipment documents |
| Delivered but missing | Local-carrier proof and investigation; marketplace remedy in parallel |
| Return to seller | Carrier tracking plus marketplace refund process |
| Non-AliExpress Cainiao parcel | Current Cainiao support |
| AliExpress parcel commercial remedy | AliExpress support |
Use Who to Contact About a Package when the responsible party remains unclear.
Cainiao inquiry, carrier claim and marketplace dispute
These are different processes.
Cainiao or logistics inquiry
Asks:
- where the parcel is;
- which carrier has it;
- whether a handoff occurred;
- which tracking number is current.
Local-carrier claim
Can concern:
- delivery proof;
- damage;
- misdelivery;
- last-mile loss;
- local compensation.
AliExpress or marketplace dispute
Can concern:
- item not received;
- refund;
- replacement;
- buyer protection;
- seller responsibility.
Cainiao inquiry
≠ marketplace dispute
carrier claim
≠ marketplace refund
marketplace refund
≠ carrier fault proven
The reviewed global Cainiao sources do not establish one universal:
- claim deadline;
- claimant;
- compensation amount.
Use the current contract and marketplace rules.
For general claim preparation, see Package Claim Guide.
Privacy and sensitive Cainiao data
Cainiao tracking and logistics services can involve:
- name;
- phone number;
- email;
- delivery address;
- order number;
- tracking number;
- route and timestamps;
- origin and destination;
- carrier information;
- customs information;
- app and device data;
- support interactions.
The Cainiao app can use authenticated ecosystem features such as:

Verify suspicious Cainiao messages
A message can contain a real Cainiao number or local carrier name and still be fraudulent.
Common lures include:
- customs fee;
- address correction;
- local-carrier activation;
- redelivery;
- pickup code;
- delivery failure;
- refund;
- consolidation payment.
Use this boundary:
real Cainiao tracking number
≠ authentic message
correct local carrier name
≠ official payment page
real customs event
≠ safe request for card or ID
valid local number
≠ AliExpress account authentication
Safer verification:
- Open
global.cainiao.comindependently. - Open the AliExpress or seller account independently.
- Open the verified local-carrier site independently.
- Do not use an unsolicited payment or login link.
- Do not share pickup codes or account credentials.
- Keep screenshots and suspicious messages private.
Use Fake Delivery Message for the broader authentication workflow.
Frequently asked questions
Is Cainiao a courier?
Cainiao is a logistics network and technology business that can operate warehouses, transport and local-delivery capabilities. Its global tracker can also aggregate events from partner carriers, so Cainiao is not always the physical handler behind every displayed event.
Is Cainiao owned by Alibaba?
Cainiao remains an Alibaba Group business in current 2026 materials. The reviewed evidence does not support publishing one precise current ownership percentage or claiming that one Alibaba entity performs every Cainiao service.
Is Cainiao the same as AliExpress?
No. AliExpress is the marketplace. Cainiao provides logistics and tracking services. AliExpress controls buyer accounts, disputes and refunds.
Can I track with an AliExpress order number?
No. Use the parcel tracking number in the order’s logistics details. The commercial order number is a different identifier.
Is Cainiao the same as 4PX?
No. They remain distinct brands, carriers and provider identities even where a corporate or investment relationship exists.
Is Cainiao China Post or China EMS?
No. Cainiao can work with postal operators, but China Post and China EMS remain separate postal identities.
What does a Cainiao tracking number look like?
There is no one official universal Cainiao format. Use the complete number supplied by the seller, marketplace or official tracking record.
Why did my Cainiao tracking number change?
Consolidation, relabelling, service changes, destination injection or local-carrier assignment can create a new number. Keep the original and replacement numbers.
Does a new local number mean the local carrier has the parcel?
No. A local number can be created before physical acceptance. Check the local carrier for an Accepted, Package Received or Facility Arrival event.
What does Waiting for Carrier to Pick Up mean?
A pickup instruction or electronic booking exists. It does not mean the carrier collected the parcel.
What does Received by Logistics Company mean?
An operational logistics actor recorded acceptance. It does not automatically identify the Cainiao entity or prove international dispatch.
What does warehouse signed mean?
It supports an inbound warehouse handoff. Intake, matching, consolidation and outbound dispatch can occur later.
Why was my order consolidated?
Cainiao or a marketplace programme can combine several seller parcels into one outbound package. This can create a replacement number.
Does Processing at Sorting Center mean the parcel was exported?
No. It means a sorting node processed the shipment. Export customs and international departure are separate stages.
Does Arrived at Departure Transport Hub mean the parcel is at the airport?
Not necessarily. Cainiao uses a multimodal network. The event confirms an origin transport node, not an airport or flight.
Does Departed from Origin Country show the flight?
No. It records international line-haul progress, not aircraft telemetry.
What does Arrived at Line-Haul Office mean?
A line-haul or transfer node recorded arrival. It does not prove the recipient city, customs release or local-carrier possession.
Does import customs completed mean the local carrier has it?
No. Destination injection, sorting, label activation and carrier acceptance can follow customs.
What does Received by Local Delivery Company mean?
It is a strong destination-handoff clue. Use the local carrier’s own acceptance event for the strongest possession evidence.
Why does Cainiao say the local carrier received it while the carrier says awaiting item?
Cainiao may be showing a network or manifest-level handoff while the carrier has only advance data. Preserve both and wait for the carrier’s item-level acceptance event.
Is Cainiao tracking live GPS?
No. It is event-based tracking.
What does Cainiao Pick Up mean?
The current official explanation is ambiguous and can refer to route activity, a local facility or recipient pickup. Read the raw carrier remark and local tracking record.
Does Out for Delivery guarantee delivery today?
No. It records local route activity, not a guarantee or live driver location.
Does available for pickup mean the parcel was collected?
No. Assignment, arrival, notification, pickup-code issue and collection are separate states.
Does Cainiao Delivered prove I received the parcel?
No. It proves that a tracking source recorded completion. The local carrier controls proof, and the event does not universally establish the named recipient, address, contents or condition.
Who should I contact when Cainiao Delivered but nothing arrived?
Contact the operating local carrier for proof and investigation, and contact the seller or marketplace for the commercial remedy.
How long does Cainiao delivery take?
There is no one global time. Premium, Standard, Economy, 5-Day and 10-Day wording applies to selected services and routes.
Can Cainiao refund an AliExpress order?
Cainiao can provide logistics evidence. AliExpress or the seller controls the marketplace dispute and refund.
Can 11Tracking contact Cainiao or the local courier?
No. 11Tracking can display supported public events. It cannot contact operational parties, change delivery, clear customs, retrieve proof, file claims or approve refunds.
Use USTracking as a tracking companion
USTracking may help display supported public events from Cainiao and verified partner carriers.
It may also help preserve:
- original number;
- replacement number;
- local tracking number;
- named source carrier;
- raw public carrier remarks where safely available.
It cannot:
- access an AliExpress account;
- retrieve private order details;
- identify a carrier from a prefix alone;
- prove possession from carrier assignment;
- expose live GPS or flight data;
- contact a seller, warehouse, customs, carrier or driver;
- change an address;
- redirect a parcel;
- obtain a pickup code;
- retrieve POD;
- submit customs documents;
- pay duties;
- open a marketplace dispute;
- file a carrier claim;
- approve a refund;
- recover a parcel;
- guarantee delivery.
Use it to compare the public evidence, then use the responsible seller, Cainiao, customs, carrier or marketplace process for action.
